Hello, I am Sharon Rouse

A little about me

Hello, I am Sharon a registered Art Therapist based in Hythe, Kent. I am passionate about the effectiveness of Art Therapy as a psychological intervention and for well being for young people and adults.  I will support you in an empathetic and respectful way to explore emotions and find meaning and understanding safely within in a non judgemental therapeutic relationship. The relationship we will have is important too and together what is explore within that will lead to better mental health. Art Therapy is person centered and trauma informed and you do not need to be creative or good at art to benefit from Art therapy is you choose not to use the creative aspect that is OK we can just talk you will still benefit from your sessions the important thing is it is your choice. Each session will be at your pace and led by you.

Depending on the age of the client Art Therapy is adaptable and often with younger 'creative' encompasses play, poetry, animation, role play for example but whatever engages the individual within the session to help them communicate and explore their world.

Sharon Rouse Art Therapy covers Ashford, Canterbury, Folkestone, Romeny Marsh, Dymchurch and Hythe i.e. Shepway and surrounding areas in Kent.

I have experience in both primary and secondary schools in Kent.  During my training I had the privilege of training placements in the NHS in both Community Mental Health Service with Adults and Children and Adolescent Mental Health Service (CAMHS). Working with a broad range of referrals some of which are:-

  • bereavement,

  • anxiety,

  • self harming,

  • sexuality,

  • sexual abuse,

  • psychosis,

  • child in care

  • challening behaviour

  • chronic illness

  • depression

  • school refusal

  • working with difference

  • working with individuals with SEND needs

  • low self esteme

  • PTSD/CPTSD

  • trauma

I am also trained in the use of the Children's Accelerated Trauma Technique (CATT) to help adults and children living with CPTSD and PTSD.  CATT is a trauma informed form of CBT which also uses art within the process.  To read more info on CATT visit - https://traumapsychology.co.uk

I can appreciate that it can be very daunting to make the first contact with a therapist.  You are not committing to anything by making that first contact, as you are in control in what happens next and have choices.  It is a positive move you are making.

I have access to a lovely therapy room in Hythe.

Other info. - from time to time I enjoy creating stop motion animation, and making puppets both of which can be incorporated into sessions where appropriate.
